Hello, I’m Michael Baker. I am a 49-year-old strength trainer, certified personal trainer, running coach, health coach & yoga teacher. I'm also a former yoga studio owner, and dedicated health and wellness practitioner with over 30 years of experience. I began "Get Up Earlier" (GetUpEarlier.com) because getting up earlier was step 1 in transforming my routine and overall well-being, especially after spending years sitting at a computer as a digital professional. My primary goal is to bridge the gap from inactivity and poor diet to strength and healthy habits. I focus on helping people rely on intuition, providing a personal experience, and introducing them to weights, along with fundamental nutrition knowledge and concepts. While my own marathon training or strength achievements might seem extreme, I'm not trying to turn anyone into a bodybuilder or marathon runner.     I believe in "lifting heavy things" with high intensity at least 2x per week. Compound exercises, body-weight strength training, physical outdoor work.

    Providing education on clean eating, understanding calories, healthy digital shopping, and creating personalized, sustainable meal plans.
    You cannot out-train, out-run, or out-yoga a bad diet or eating too many calories. If the goal is weight loss, muscle building, or muscle retention, you must learn about food. As an experienced strength trainer and certified health coach, I understand the critical role diet plays in achieving your fitness goals. Everyone has unique needs, and together, we'll develop a customized plan based on sound, actionable information. This includes a full understanding of calories, macronutrient needs, single ingredient vs. ultra-processed foods, and healthy digital shopping.

    I believe in performing minimalist outdoor strength training as often as possible. I've been known to say "quit the gym". Why? The commute. The fluorescent lights. No sunlight exposure or fresh air. The TV / news overload. The lack of motivation. I can go on!

    Did you ever say "I don't have time for the gym" and then just quit working out? 

    My goal is to teach you how to be able to get a great workout anywhere, any time with what ever resources are available. Break free from the reliance on a gym, equipment and technology. 

    I never considered things like "painting my house", "walking the dog" or "hiking with my kid" to be forms of beneficial exercise. But it is! Move your body how you prefer to, just move it more often and sometimes add resistance!

    When you live the life that I hope to teach you about, performing physical movement becomes effortlessly integrated not forced and dreaded.
