BOSTON QUALIFYING PROJECT: COMPLETE.
I did it. I cracked the code and broke the barrier.
I ran the Hartford Marathon in 3 hours 18 minutes, breaking the 3:20 Boston qualifying standard for my age group (50-54).
In less than two years, I went from a 3:51 marathon to 3:18, a 33-minute improvement.
I did a lot of it my own way: three runs per week, heavy strength training, severely flat feet, no heart-rate training, no Garmin, and primarily homemade race fuel.
I wrote up the entire project, what worked, what failed, Erie, Hartford, and what I'm changing next.
